We created this recipe through trial and error when we were looking for something quick, easy, and tasty to make with mince.
Although we would like to use more taco seasoning (we love taco seasoning), we limit the amount to keep the carbs down and use tabasco sauce to add to the flavour. We also use a significant amount of cheese, which may be too much for some people. Be warned 🙂
Ingredients:
- 450 g (15.9 oz) of beef mince
- 80 g (2.8 oz) of diced onion
- 80 g (2.8 oz) of diced tomato
- 60 g (2.1 oz) of diced green pepper
- 1 Tbsp of olive oil
- 20 g (0.7 oz) of taco seasoning
- Tabasco sauce to taste
- 170 g (6.0 oz) of grated cheese (we used tasty cheddar)
- 70 g (2.5 oz) of sour cream
- Salt and pepper to taste
Recipe:
- Heat the olive oil in a pan, and fry the onion until browned.
- Add the mince, and fry until browned.
- Add the taco seasoning, tabasco sauce, tomato, and green pepper and cook on a medium heat for 20 minutes (stirring regularly).
- Add a handful of grated cheese and stir through.
- Serve the cooked mince into bowls, and top with the remaining grated cheese and the sour cream.

Do you make your own taco seasoning, or buy a prepared season mix?
I tend to use a prepared mix (Old El Paso brand), but it does contain more carbs than I’d like. I tried making my own once, but must have got the balance of spices wrong as the flavour wasn’t great. I’d be really interested to know if anyone has a good receipe for making your own.
